Users of Gmail can now “attach” money through Emails

Users of Google mail account are now allowed to
attach money to their messages and send it to
people, even if they don’t have a Gmail address,
Independent report.
The process of attaching money to emails is similar
to attaching a document.
Hovering over the paper clip used to do so will now
show a £ icon as well as the usual ones.
Clicking on that will allow you to enter how much
you want to send.
The same method can be used to request money.
The good news here is that requests can be sent to
anyone, whether or not they have a Gmail account.
But before you can use the service, you’ll be
required to setting up a Google Wallet account, by
linking a debit card or bank account.
Money can either be kept in Google Wallet, for use
on Google Play, or moved back into a bank account.
Paying through Gmail has been possible in the US,
but Google’s announcement marks the first time it
will be possible in the UK.
The feature will be gradually rolled out to all UK
Gmail users who are 18 years old.

Why I shall never allow my six year old daughter to watch or ever listen to Nikki Samonas, Deborah Vanessa and their likes?

Of what relevance to society is my grandmother
who happens to be in her late seventies? Sorry to
say but her breast is sagging and drooping,
sometimes I imagine she has to literally kick them
out of her way to walk a short distance. The reality
check is that most old women who happen to be in
a similar age category as my granny face such
‘natural landslides’, it is normal. The question then
becomes, is this all they have to offer to society?
I do not think I am the only person who gets sick
whenever I see or hear these home grown
‘Rihannas’and ‘Soweto ladies’ speak. I sometimes
wonder which is bigger their teats or their brains.
Do not get me wrong here, I absolutely stand for
women empowerment, in fact as a UN Women
ambassador for HeForShe campaign, one of the
things I often stand up for are women who are
suppressed or abused. Unfortunately, one of the
few things I shall never stand up for, are women
who misinform and misdirect our young ones about
what womanhood is all about. Women who think
they can make lasting impact in society by stripping
whenever the opportunity presents itself. I recently
listened to one of our homegrown Rihannas on a
popular radio station defending what was obviously
an obscene outfit she wore to a social gathering.
“Why did you dress like that to expose all those
parts,” the host asked. She responded, “All I have
are my breasts, so I decided to show it to the world
to attract attention,” she gladly responded without a
shrewd of guilt. No wonder Einstein once said,
“Thinking is a difficult job that is why only few
people engage in it.”
Let me say that indeed she has caught my eye with
that crass of a dress and I believe the attention of
millions of Ghanaians as well and this attention has
informed my decision to hide my six year old
daughter from her likes. I would rather prefer my
daughter to grow up in a society where she can
look up to women of substance such as Shirley
Frimpong Manso who has demonstrated over and
over again that you do not have to strip naked to
attract the attention of the world. She has
demonstrated to our young and upcoming women
that it takes more than the outer shell of a human
being to make a lasting impact in society. She
obviously has demonstrated to the world that her
brains are much more bigger than her teats.
“Who are you to critique these ‘Rihannalike’ ladies
like that?” That is if they are ladies in the first
place!!! Someone may demand. I was not surprised
to hear another popular so called ‘movie star’
defend this sickening attitude engulfing our society
when she said, this is freedom and democracy
everybody does what pleases them. I highly
subscribe to her line of reasoning. Of course this is
democracy, and if you think as a public figure; you
can set bad precedence for the millions of children
who are looking up to you, what makes you think I
do not have the freedom to wield the power of my
pen to influence millions of people positively. After
all we all have our freedom, Don’t we?
Photo: Nikki Samonas
Perhaps I need to show more of my ‘sakkorra
chest’ and ‘flattened buttocks’ to gain international
attention and boost my google, facebook and
youtube traffic. Maybe that’s all I also have to offer
as well but you see, what then happens to my
relevance to society seventy years down the line
when I am as old as my granny is today. Of what
use shall the likes of Nikki and the ‘Obama hit
maker’ have in society when ‘Darwin’s Evolution’
catches up with them. Someone might want to
explain ‘Darwin’s Evolution’ to them. I do not think
they have ever given it a thought. Yes, I am being
as candid as I can because the impacts of their
actions on our young ones are enormous and far
reaching. Being on the screens demands
responsibility and if they shall not take up that
mantle of responsibility, I shall forcefully place it in
their bras. Did I just say this? I simply cannot stand
aloof and watch a few bad nuts destroy our moral
fabric by actively promoting live porn in the media,
to say the least. Think whatever you want to think,
this is Ghana. If you disagree, perhaps you need a
ticket to Saudi Arabia, Iran or China. Choose one; I
shall buy you the ticket. Hahahaha. I now sound like
that politician.
Photo: Deborah Vanessa
On a serious note, lest I forget, it is never too late to
turn a new leaf, we are all bound to make mistakes
at a point in time and do not expect society to
crucify us. I would rather want to assume these
young ladies are honestly doing this crazy stuff in
the name of modeling or show business because
they are simply ignorant. I hope they quickly see
the sense in living a life that adds to society and not
rather destroy what society has built. I hope they
see the sense in what I am saying. Women like
Emma Watson, Rosa Parks, and Michelle Obama,
just to mention a few have all demonstrated that
you do not have to walk in town with the visible
inscriptions on your forehead, “anything goes”
before the world recognizes your efforts.
My grandmother may be in her seventies but I am
proud she doesn’t allow her drooping chest or
upended breasts to determine her importance and
relevance to society. Even at that age, she owns
several farms and brings meaning to the lives of
others through employment. Yes she doesn’t
destroy society, she adds positively to society. Let
us all learn these lessons very early in life
especially my sisters, you have more to offer than
your body and looks which is bound to display the
appearance like that of my granny fifty years down
the line. This is depreciation 101 and there is
nothing wrong with that. Do not buy that junk you
always see on the screens, it is great you are
beautiful but our bodies are more valuable than
bikinis and semi nude pictures. Our bodies are the
temple of the Holy Spirit. Let us therefore present
our bodies as living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto
God. Let us manifest the glory of God in our bodies.
A Letter To My Unborn Six Year Old Daughter.

I always wanted to be a footballer - McBrown reveals

Nana Ama McBrown, the Ghanaian screen princess
has revealed she had dreams of becoming a
football star when she was growing up in the
Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi.
Speaking on the Morning Starr on Starr 103.5FM,
Friday, in a revealing interview, McBrown said she
had interest in playing on the wings, but strangely
found herself in acting.
“I wanted to be a footballer when I was
young...position seven and eleven because I wanted
to run, I always wanted to be a star.
“From school, I took a certificate for table tennis for
my school, I was more into sports, volleyball,
netball, but I realised football was the ultimate, so
let’s stick to football, but my mum said: ‘You won’t
get money and you would be hard’...so after six
years in football, I felt that it won’t help.
“[Football] wasn’t lucrative because if I don’t get to
go play outside Ghana like a good footballer, I won’t
survive, so I decided to switch to so many things
and I landed on acting,” McBrown told host Kafui
Dey.

My "boobs" are all I have - Actress Nikki Samonas

Ghanaian actress Nikki Samonas says she likes to
flaunt her boobs since they are small and "it’s
easier to do that when they are small than when
they are heavy".
The Ghanaian actress and model Nikki Samonas
speaking on the "Let’s Talk Entertainment" Show on
Multi TV, talked about her career and fashion in the
movie industry.
“My boobs are trending...you can’t even wear a
bikini when they are heavy", she said.
According to the actress who is a well-known face
in the showbiz industry, small boobs fit perfectly in
bikinis than heavy boobs.
The actress also said, she strongly disagrees with
the fact that people think actresses and actors are
expensive and like competition.
“People just seem happy about the things they
acquire or achieve and I think they like to tell the
world or share it”.
For her, she says, when she enters a diamond
shop and tries on a diamond ring which probably
will cost 2 million, takes a picture of it and puts it on
Instagram, it is not because she wants to flaunt it,
but just to have fun.
“If you buy a new dress and you wear it, you feel
good and comfortable in it, you will like to show it
or flaunt it; this is part of girls mostly and even the
guys do it”.
The actress whose career started as a model said
acting was actually not her dream: “I never decided
to go into acting, I was handpicked”.
Nikki started modeling with Tigo, then followed on
with some other modeling agencies; and then
moved to Venus films.
Her acting career started with the movie "Beyonce"
after the popular television series “Things we do for
love” and “Ladies and Gentlemen”.

She says, that was how her acting skills were
discovered.
The actress stated that it wasn’t her thirst for fame
that got her connected to the Black Stars.
“First of all let me correct this, I have a
management, they promote, characterize and brand
me. So most of the things that come out are not
necessarily my ideas or thoughts”, she said.
She told Showbiz, people should not blame her for
some of the things they see or hear out there about
her.
The actress believes her small body frame gives
her the chance to experiment with fashion,
basically because for her, "everything just fits".
“Fashion is, 'if I see it and I like it I try it on, I flow
with it'. I just make sure it's classy”.
According to her, Ghanaians are a bit wary or
extremely attentive when it comes to fashion and
that prompts her to be much careful with the things
she wears, what to wear and where to wear them
to.
Nikki Samonas who was the face of Chris Air
jewelries between 2010 to 2012, believes that
contract sparked her love for jewelries.
She says that was her biggest platform and her
dream as a model is to work for Iman Cosmetics.
She used the Lets Talk Entertainment platform to
clarify her identity problems, which she says is a
big issue for her.
She says she is a Ghanaian with the native name
Nana Yaa, half Ashanti and half Greek. Her mom

It's strange to say Mahama is behind Ghana's problems - Abeiku Santana

Ace broadcast journalist and OKAY FM’s drive time
host, Abieku Santana has described President John
Dramni Mahama as the most courageous president
ever in annals of the country's political history.
He explained that, unlike other past Head of States,
Mr. Mahama is the only president who has gone
through thick and thin in trying to achieve his aims
for the country, and yet still looks youthful.
Abieku was speaking on Radio Gold in an interview
with Kofi Okyere Darko (aka KOD), Friday.
“Honestly, President John Dramani Mahama is the
only president who has suffered but still looks good.
He is a brave man despite all the pressure. He is
the man,” he opined
The award winning drive time host dared anyone,
including members of the opposition NPP, to pinpoint
exactly what the president has done to drive the
nation backwards.
“It's strange when people say Mahama is the cause
of all the problems Ghana is facing now…how
possible? What exactly has he done…I dare people
to come out and tell us what President Mahama has
really done to destroy this country. We have all
contributed to where this country is. We are all to be
blame,” He said.
However, Abieku has vowed to campaign again for
President John Dramni Mahama in 2016 even
though he does not buy the ideas of some of the
people associated to the president.

Alabaster Box performs at London Acappella Festival 2015

Ghana’s Alabaster Box made the country proud for
the third time in months, appearing for the first time
at the London Acappella Festival 2015.
The group was the first gospel act and first African
music group to appear on BBC World Focus on
Africa TV in April 2014. It then went on to chalk
another first as the first Ghanaian act at the
Experience Lagos in December last year, in front of
a 500,000 strong audience.
Returning to London for the second time since April,
Alabaster Box was the only African act on this
year’s London Acappella Festival, which took off
January 28 and is due to finish January 31, 2015.
The festival, jointly organized by the Grammy
Award-winning vocal group, The Swingles and Ikon
Arts Management, is holding at the King’s Place
and Cadogan Hall in London, and features renowned
acappella groups from London and around the
world.
The London Acappella Festival was incepted in
2009, running annually with sell-out performances,
talks and workshops. With over 4500 visitors each
year, the festival is now a staple in the acappella
calendar and has grown to become one of the
country’s most-loved and eagerly awaited
celebrations of vocal talent.
Some of the main acts this year are hosts The
Swingles, London’s pride the King’s Singers,
Accent, and one of America’s best, Straight No
Chaser. Others are Singapore’s MICappella, Finnish
voices group, Club For Five, Irish group Anuma,
Canada’s top young voices, Countermeasure, Apollo
Five from England and another youth group, 9.5.
Alabaster Box made a maiden entry into the
festival, but its unique Afroppella sound,
characterized mainly by pure Ghanaian signature
tunes, harmonies and rhythms, was enough to
convince the London Acappella Festival organizers
they did the right thing.
And Alabaster Box did not disappoint.
The group opened its 20 minutes act with the
evergreen Akwaaba song, which got all the
audience moving to the sound. It then dropped its
Ahunabobrim song in the royal adowa tune
mesmerizing the audience into wondering if the
group had a soundtrack on the background.
The title tract of its latest album, Level don’ Change
in pidgin English would follow immediately, and then
the 20 minute run ended on a familiar note, Amazing
Grace, but spiced with the unique Alabaster Box
Afroppella signature.
A wowed member of the festival organizers
exclaimed “o my God you guys sound so good.
What a loss it would have been if we did not have
you guys on the show this year.”
She stated further “we can’t wait to have you again
next year on a much bigger platform.”
The group had been in London since December 31,
2014 originally to participate in the one-week long
Jericho Praise, organized by Power of Jehovah, a
member of the Redeemed Christian Church of God
(RCCG) in London.
At Jericho Praise, Alabaster Box ministered
alongside one of the grand fathers of gospel music,
Jamaica’s Lester Lewis of “Winner Man” and “I
shall not die” fame. There were also Nigeria’s
grandma of gospel music, Bola Areh and South
Africa’s James Okun among others.
The group also ministered at the Trinity Baptist
Church five-day worship conference with Sonnie
Badu and at Jesus house and Revelation Christian
Centre in Luton among other venues.
Da Box is due back home February 2, 2015.

Two years on, McBrown remembers near-fatal accident in tears

Today, Friday January 30, 2015 is exactly two
years since affable Ghanaian screen beauty, Nana
Ama McBrown, was involved in a near-fatal
accident on the N1 Highway and she remembers
the day painfully on the Morning Starrshow.
McBrown, who joined host Kafui Dey and the rap
originator Gyedu Blay Ambolley in the Starr
103.5FM studio shed tears as she sang a song
thanking God for keeping her alive.
The actress-cum-producer together with her
boyfriend Maxwell Mensah who was driving a
Range Rover that Wednesday's wee hour [about
1am] were on their way back from location of a
music video shoot with Hiplife group Praye when
they skidded off the road leaving the actress
ruinously wounded.

Maxwell who did not sustain any grave injuries was
treated and discharged on the same day, but
McBrown who fractured her right arm was held on
admission for over two weeks.

I'm the originator of rap worldwide, not just Ghana – Ambolley

Legendary Ghanaian musician, Gyedu Blay
Ambolley, who has on many occasions described
himself as the originator of rap music in Ghana is
now contesting the Guinness Book of records that
the Sugarhill Gang are the originators of the genre
worldwide.
The ‘Radum zo’ hitmaker who said his style of rap
was taken from a Liberian mad man called
Arakayan told Morning Starr host Kafui Dey on
Friday that he was the first person to have made
the type of music popular and commercialized it.
“I am [the originator of rap] in the whole world not
only Ghana. Yeah because if you go into the
Guinness book of records they said that the
Sugarhill Gang originated rap, and if you check the
date, their date was around 78, 79.
Mine came out in 73 commercially so I’m
challenging the Guinness book of records on that.
“We are corresponding though. Because I think that
somebody isn’t doing his or her homework
well...anything coming from Africa, many a time
they look down on it but this time we're gonna
stand up and claim it…”
When asked by the Morning Starr host “So you are
not the grandpapa [of rap] you are the Godfather of
rap worldwide?”, Ambolley said “I’m telling you!
Because if you wanna check the record and
everything, Boom! It’s right there”.

Lil Wayne sues Cash Money for $51 Million

Lil Wayne is suing Cash Money with the hopes of
ending his contract with the label, according to TMZ.
The lawsuit alleges that CEO Bryan "Birdman"
Williams and the company have withheld a
substantial amount of money that it owes him with
regard to the rapper's still-unreleased new album,
Tha Carter V . Because the label has not paid him
the money he claims he's owed, Wayne contends
that he should be able to leave Cash Money.
In addition to severing his contract, Lil Wayne is
seeking $51 million and has asked a judge to
declare him the joint copyright holder of everything
released on his Cash Money imprint, Young Money,
including recordings by Drake and Nicki Minaj.
A spokesperson for Birdman was not immediately
available for comment.
Last month, the rapper publicly spoke out against
Cash Money, tweeting, "I want off this label" and
calling himself a prisoner. Tha Carter V was
originally due out last May, but was delayed to a
December release; it did not come out and the Cash
Money website still advertises it as "coming soon."
Around the time of Weezy's tweets, his manager,
Cortez Bryant, told TMZ that the rapper had no
intention of leaving the label.
Last week, Lil Wayne put out a new mixtape, Sorry
4 the Wait 2 . He preceded the released with a song,
"Sh*t (Remix)," which contained the couplet: "Did
my time at Cash Money, time served and released/
But this agent ain't free, word, that's the word on
these streets." Another track, "CoCo," found him
comparing himself to Scarface . "Cash Money is an
army, I'm a one-man army/And if them niggas
comin' for me, I'm goin' out like Tony/Now I don't
want no problems, I just want my money." The
compilation is available for download via DatPiff.

KKD goes to court with father, case adjourned to Feb. 5

Embattled broadcaster Kwasi Kyei Darkwah, KKD,
today returned to court in the case in which he is
being charged for rape.
Darkwah went to court today in the company of his
father. The broadcaster, whose accuser has
formally written to the Attorney General’s office to
discontinue the case, may have to brace himself for
a long trial.
At the magistrate court today, he was officially
served with a bill of indictment, court sources say.
The case was subsequently adjourned to February
5 after his lawyers asked for more time to study the
bill.
KKD has since apologised for the act that led to his
arrest but insists it was consensual. He was
arrested on the weekend of December 27, 2014, at
the African Regent Hotel, after his accuser had
lodged a complaint at the Airport Police Station.
In a statement issued in Accra on January 13, 2015,
he asked the public to forgive him for the ridicule
and disgrace he had caused to his family and that
of the victim.
“I, Kwasi Kyei Darkwah wish to make this public
announcement that I truly and sincerely apologise
for the public ridicule and disgrace that has ensued
by reason of the fleeting pleasure of the flesh
involving Ewureffe Orleans Thompson and myself.
"I acknowledge I have sinned and have prayed to
my God for forgiveness for all that trauma I have
caused the young woman.
"I plead with all in the media to spare Ewureffe and
our respective families any further agonies.”

Shatta Wale takes Ara-B back; says ‘Forgiveness is everything’

Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has said that he has
forgiven his former right-hand man, Ara-B, who left
him to start his own label.
Shatta’s statement comes just days after a video of
the two in a nightclub surfaced.
Ara-B left Shatta Movement in May last year to
form OsuMania Records (OSM), and many months
down the line, the project has not been fruitful. Ara-
B has therefore made a u-turn to apologise to
Shatta Wale.

Pay me for 'kpa kpa kpa' - term originator

Late last year, a Multi TV video of an interview of a
man went viral on social media. The man, an
unemployed father of five, was asked how he had
managed to meet the challenges of the tough
economic situation that the country found itself.
In his response, the man, Ayitey Mohammed,
credited his survival strategy to a “kpa kpa kpa
movement”. According to him, “kpa kpa kpa” was
not about stealing or using nefarious means to
survive but using all available legitimate means to
make ends meet.
Almost overnight, the video went viral and the
phrase “kpa kpa kpa” caught on like wild fire
becoming a slang for one’s ability to survive
despite the odds. The slang entered everyday
Ghanaian usage and not long after, it started
appearing in works of art as well.
Various shops began referring to their reduction
sales and giveaways as “kpa kpa kpa”. Hiplife
artiste, Guru, released a single titled, “kpa kpa kpa”
and lately telecommunications company, Glo,
launched a promotion with the same slang.
With the popularity of the “kpa kpa kpa” slang on
the rise, Ayitey Mohammed, the man in the viral
video is demanding financial compensation from
businesses and other commercial users.
In an interview with Accra based Neat FM, Ayitey
Mohammed demanded Gh¢50,000 from Hiplife
artiste, Guru, as royalties to be paid to him for
making the song with the slang without seeking
prior permission.
In an interview with Showbiz on Wednesday, Ayitey
Mohammed expressed his anger at Guru and his
management team for not discussing terms with
him before using the slang in a song. He, however,
admitted that he received an amount of GH¢160
and a hamper as well as other presents from the
artiste at Christmas but he did not consider that as
adequate compensation.
“I deserve more than just a hamper and GH ¢ 160,
as we speak, my three kids are in the house and I
need to pay their school fees,” he said.
According to him, although he has not registered
the term, “kpa kpa kpa”, he should still be having
some cash in his pocket.
However, Frank Agyekum, artiste manager for
Guru, told Showbiz: “I really do not know what
Ayitey Mohammed wants. The fact that you are the
origniator of a term doesn’t mean no one else can
use it. At least, we have compensated him with
some cash, hamper and other items,” he said.

Pope Skinny cashes in on KKD saga, releases 'KKD' single

Ongoing alleged rape case of ace broadcaster and
entertainment personality, Kwasi Kyei Darkwah,
widely known as KKD, has been the hottest in the
news since his arrest on December 27, 2014.
Many Ghanaians, home and abroad, have gained
popularity via their social media pages for their
opinions on the alleged rape case which
prosecutors are pressing on despite the alleged
victim's disinterest.
Among the long list of people who expressed their
feelings on the matter included Lydia Forson, John
Dumelo, Yvonne Nelson, American-based radio
presenter, Naa Ameley Tagoe aka Tulip and blogger
Malaka Grant.
Now, Hiplife artiste and host of Kasahari Levels on
Accra-based radio station, Adom FM has joined the
bandwagon by releasing a song titled 'KKD'.
The song produced by Kasapa Beats under the
Asuoden Music label has the KKD issue all over it,
of which the rapper recently dismissed on his radio
show.
During the radio show on Saturday night, Pope
Skinny interviewed himself about the use of 'KKD'
as title for the new song and if he had wanted to
gain some popularity out of the woes of the
aggrieved broadcaster.

He responded with an explanation that the choice of
'KKD' for the title was not because of the
broadcaster but because the letters K.K.D are
initials of his name, Kwame K. Darko.
As it stands now, it is public knowledge that Pope
Skinny was christened Edwin Ohene Darko, he will
be pardoned with the name Kwame since he was
born on a Saturday. But what about the other K?
Anyway, that's a smart move especially when the
case is in court to avoid any legal repercussions.

Say "no" to narcotics - Kwaw Kesse appeals

Ghana's King of Street, Kwaw Kesse, affectionately
called "Abodam" has appealed to Ghanaians to
abstain from narcotic drugs in order to avoid any
jail term.
In an exclusive interview on Peace FM's
Entertainment Review with host Kwame Adjetia
Adjei, Kwaw Kesse bemoaned his remand in the
Kumasi Central Prisons, stressing that life in prison
should not be desired.
According to him, the number of days and weeks he
spent in prison taught him a lesson that "prison is
not a place for a human being to be."
This he explained is due to the harsh living
conditions in Ghana's prisons.
He recounted that while in prison, he was denied
the privilege of having a sound sleep but for certain
individuals who adored him as a "music icon" in the
nation; he would have also missed his bathing
sessions.
He also told the host that the situation in prison
transcend human imagination since some inmates
have to squeeze themselves a room, which was
initially made for 10 people, but houses about 74
people; just to catch some sleep.
Abodam further expressed worry over the way of
living in the prison, asserting that the inmates, as
well as the warders, are equally prone to some
chronic diseases.
He therefore appealed to government and human
right activists in the country to ensure that the
prisons are renovated and kept proper for the
prisoners.
“If the government can, it should keep that place
clean a bit because it is human beings that are
there. They’re not animals, so they can also feel a
bit at home.”
He added that during his incarceration in the
Kumasi Central Prison in Ashanti Region, he
advised the inmates to let their experiences in
prison reform their conduct when they come back
into the society.
“I was telling them that you people should try, when
you’re set free, to do something that can help you,"
he said.
Kwaw Kesse also wants the youth and the entire
nation to say "no" to consumption of narcotic drugs.
"I will use my experience to preach to the people
out there that even if it’s ice water you will sell to
earn a living, because where I went had several
armed robbers; others too do not know what they
did to be incarcerated but if they can, they should
try and stay away from trouble.”

I'm not pregnant and not really religious - Naa Ashorkor

Brainy and sexy actress, Naa Ashorkor, on
Thursday, opened up as never before in a no-
holds-barred interview with NEWS-ONE and makes
rather interesting revelations about her life,
upbringing, career, core values, trials and her future
prospects.
Naa is host of Starr FM’s mid-morning programme,
‘The Zone’, and also runs her own TV show, ‘Tales
from the Powder Room’, on GH-One.
She has starred in some of Ghana’s best
contemporary movies including ‘A Letter From
Adam’, ‘Checkmate’, ‘Adams Apple’, ‘Perfect
Picture’ and ‘Scorned’.
NEWS-ONE asked Naa Ashorkor about her greatest
achievements:
What is the biggest thing you have achieved?
When people ask me about achievements and how
many awards I have won, I have not won many but
I have won some. I really don’t count awards and
nominations as achievements. What I count are the
people who feel I am making a positive difference in
their lives.
For example, I never knew it was possible to
receive phone calls from Facebook until two nights
ago when a girl called me around 1am.
You receive calls at 1am?
Not exactly but I thought this one was strange and
also did not understand how it was from Facebook
so I picked and the caller said she was 29 and
wanted to commit suicide but wanted to talk to me
before the act. I did not know what to say. I listened
to her and she said she takes inspiration from me
but was tired because of family and relationship
issues.
We spoke from that time until I was ready to
prepare for work and by then she had changed her
mind. These are the things that make me happy and
I am glad I have this opportunity to make a
difference in people’s lives. Not many people have
such opportunities in this world.
Are you a very religious person?
Not really. Let me tell you this: In secondary
school, there was a lot of talk about witches and all
that so I used to go for prayer meetings to protect
myself from the witches. There was this time the
pastor said I should allow God to use me to touch
lives and I thought he was talking about me
becoming a pastor’s wife or a lady pastor or
something. But in these last few weeks, I now
understand I am touching lives in a positive way.
Many look up to you as their role model.
When people say I am their role model, it makes me
want to live up to expectation. But I say to myself,
just keep doing you and the people who look up to
you need never to be disappointed.
Hosting mid-morning radio in Accra is a challenging
task. Many doubted your competence. You have
proven them wrong. What was the magic?
I would be honest with you. When Bola Ray asked
me to host Mid-morning on Starr FM, I said no. Not
‘no’ to radio but to hosting mid-morning because it
was too big. I said I would prefer hosting a
women’s programme on Saturday evenings or
something less challenging until I grow into it and
then maybe a year later, I take up bigger
challenges.
But he said I could do it and I felt he would not
gamble with his investments and so if he believed I
could do it, why not? Then I can do it. For the first
three days, I was trying to sound fantastic and it
was a lot of mess. I was just all over the place.
After that, I decided to relax and just be me. I’ve
been a very odd freak of people on radio and TV
and I could recite the intros of many of them. And I
attempted to do radio like I have known how the
others do it. But when I decided to be me, laugh at
my mistakes, read the LPMs like I was reading any
other sheet of paper, things became easier for me.
There is a tendency to sound a certain way once a
microphone is set before you. TV is audio-visual
and viewers could see your emotions but on radio,
it is different and I had to just be me. There is a
hashtag on Tigo—‘Keep Doing You’—and that was
what I decided to do. If you listen to me on radio or
anywhere else, I talk the same. Being me is how
I’ve survived and I keep growing every day.
You got married just when you started hosting mid-
morning radio. Double pressure; you must be
superhuman to have survived.
Oh I don’t think so. I just like to take it easy and did
not pressure myself. There is pressure on those
who want to be pressured. Sometimes you see
people and they seem they have no problems but
they have huge problems. And there are people
walking around and acting like the whole world is
coming to an end but they are only hungry and need
food. It is the attitude we adopt that makes the
difference.
When I started radio, it was challenging and I was
trying my best.

I could not even understand the consul and which
button to press when. I know music but not the
names of the musicians and yet I was to decide
which music to play. But I had a fantastic DJ who
helped me—DJ Mono.
I remember there was this guy at Airtel who wrote
a whole write-up about how I was terrible and
some even said I was a square peg in a round hole.
But I am grateful to God it is working out.
Those who thought I would fail are changing their
minds and people now listen to me not because
there are no competitors but because they can see
I am getting better.
There are fears marriage would affect your career
adversely.
No I don’t think so. It has not. It won’t.
Before Naa became a famous person, who was
she?
I am still all that I was—just an ordinary girl.
Primary school, I was very loud; JSS, I was a very
quiet girl; SSS, I was talking everywhere. I was SRC
vice president and secretary for my region. I did a
lot of school debates and even won a few cups for
my school and I enjoyed it.
I think I got to know myself better in secondary
school—the sort of person I was, the things I like to
do and the things I won’t like to do. Before GIJ, I
was in a lot of school activities and debates. I loved
to be heard and to champion strange courses. That
is what people would remember me for.
Were you the same at the GIJ?
I was very quiet in GIJ.
But you still found something special in GIJ?
You mean in GIJ? You mean my husband? Oh yes. I
met him in GIJ. I don’t know if people really
remember me in the GIJ. For my first three years
there, I was not on TV. I started TV in the third year
and I believe that was when some of my mates
even saw me for the first time.
You acted ‘Kabuki’ in Lydia Forson’s ‘Letter from
Adam’ and got married in the movie which was
premiered just when you got married in real life?
Was it a hype for the movie?
Ah! You mean I got married to push someone’s
movie? It was pure coincidence and I did not even
realise the coincidence until people started talking
about it. We shot that movie when? I can’t even
remember. But Lydia booked the Silverbird Cinemas
about six months before the premiere date. It has
nothing to do with my marriage.
How do you manage to stay away from controversy
or scandals as a showbiz person?
Well, I don’t know. Maybe my mother always told
me that if I stayed at home, I won’t get into trouble
and that has really entered my head. She always
said trouble cannot come to you when you are in
your home. It has helped me a lot. I work with an
event organising company and it is only when we
have events that you would see me out. I feel
comfortable at home and at places where I am safe.
If you read all the stories about celebrities in
trouble, they mostly got into trouble when they went
somewhere or said something.
You are an actress, a TV presenter and a radio
presenter; which pays the most?
It depends on who you are working for that would
determine how much you are going to get. I think
acting has paid me the most and I am looking at the
biggest amount of money I have received at a time
and that came from acting.
Would you become a movie producer someday like
your colleagues?
I am so happy they are becoming producers
because it would make our industry bigger. But I
would rather want to produce a stage play. I love
movies; they are great but I love stage plays. They
are challenging and I would want to promote that.
Are you pregnant as reports say?
I also heard about that. It is not true. But if it is true,
I am not aware.
Anything you would want to tell your fans and
readers of this interview?
We are in an overcrowded world with too many
people competing to be seen. The best you can be
is to just be you and not try to be anybody else.
Anybody else is taken and your best bet is to be
you. Grab opportunities when they come and never
say ‘I can’t do it’. Just try because it is only when
you try that you can say you can or cannot. But
you’ve just got to try.
Thanks for the interview, Naa.
Thanks too for the opportunity, Halifax.
