Gospel artistes who fight over VGMA are babies in Christ - Evang. Diana Asamoah

Ghanaian gospel diva, Diana Asamoah who is
known for her inspirational songs and her powerful
voice says any gospel artiste who argues over
VGMA awards is a baby in Christ, and must pray to
gain favour from the lord.
According to “Pentecost Soree Ndwom” hitmaker,
their genre of music is solely to lift the name of God
high and shouldn't be measured by a system
designed by humans.
She therefore advised gospel musicians to work
hard in order to receive blessings of God, but not
man.
Diana disclosed this in an interview with Okay FM's
Abieku Santana, pointing out her personal view
about VGMA awards and how she has been
cheated over the years.

"I have had very good songs over the past 3 years
and by some reason they were not nominated, so I
wasn't even expecting any nominations," she said
The “Pentecost Gya” singer advised gospel
musicians to sing from their heart and not for
money because the end time is near.
Despite her unconcern about the annual industry
awards, Evang. Diana Asamoah has been
nominated for five categories in this years VGMA
including "Gospel Song of the Year" & "Vodafone
Most Popular Song of the Year".

Award winning Ghanaian music group
R2Bees, made up of Paedae and Mugeez
finally laid to settle dust on media
reports that the group had parted ways with
their longtime beat maker,Killbeat.
The group which  had then  returned from a
musical tour in the UK in an exclusive
interview with Giovani Caleb on the “ Dryve
of ur Lyf ” on YFM in Accra disclosed in a
subtle way the sacking of their manager in last year 2014

But their current single "MAKOMA"
which was produced by Kaywa tells other wise. The lyrical content tells it all. "Okwasea ani te a, na agoro agu"
Killbeat played an integral part of R2Bees success but since he(Killbeat) moved to UK things have really change. The frequent release of singles from the award winning group has reduced.
The question is, is their new single
MAKOMA which was produced by Kaywa a diss song to Killbeat?

Prophetess calls for intensive prayers for Sarkodie

Ghana’s celebrated rapper Michael Owusu Addo,
aka Sarkodie has grown to become one of the best
if not the best hiplife artiste in the country and has
won many awards and admiration by people from
all walks of life for himself by dint of hard work.
However, an interview with an old lady by name
Maame Gladys who hails from Asamankese but
resides in Breman Asikuma has revealed that some
musicians want to spiritually break Sarkodie down.
The prophetess, who claims she has been praying
for Sarkodie every day at dawn till day break, and
even wrote Sarkodie name at a prayer camp where
she used to pray and intercede for his family and
loved ones, explains that God revealed Sarkodie
and Asamoah Gyan's name to her to intercede in
prayers for them during her sleeping ours.
In the course of the prayers she was told a group of
musicians want to break Sarkodie down because he
always sweeps all awards whenever he is being
nominated therefore he Sarkodie serves as a threat
to them.

Maame Gladys also said that she had a revelation
about Castro’s missing incident that occurred at
Ada but didn’t give it much attention until it
happened.
The woman who is on her deliverance mission at
the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital was asked if she
could use Sammy Forson as a point of contact to
pray for Sarkodie, but she said God gave her a
message to be delivered to Sarkodie directly and
would like to do that to avoid the wrath of God.
“In the meantime, what I can tell Sarkodie is to fast
and pray else the plans of those evil musicians are
likely to come through. As much as I have been
praying for him, I wish he also does same by
praying for himself,” she added.

GN Bank People’s Choice Awards now known as GN Bank Awards

The maiden edition of the People’s Choice Awards
is going through many phases indeed.
From changing the name from People’s Choice
Awards to GN Bank People’s Choice Awards, there
is a new title for the awards scheme to comply with
court directive.
The new name for the awards is GN Bank Awards
– honouring the People’s Choice, GhanaGist.Com
can report. The organizers have changed the name
because of a legal controversy revolving around the
name of program.
According to the Edwin Kweku Edinkrah, CEO of
Spyder Lee Entertainment in a press statement, his
outfit had successfully and legally registered
People’s Choice Awards as a business at the
Registrar General’s Department and subsequently
registered GN Bank People’s Choice Awards as a
trademark yet had been embroiled in a legal tussle
with Evolution International over the ownership of
the name People’s Choice Awards.
He said in April 2014, Spyder Lee Entertainment in a
two week media campaign massively publicized the
introduction of the awards and went on to launch
the awards in November 2014.
Surprisingly, weeks after the launch event, Spyder
Lee Entertainment was notified of the registration of
People’s Choice Awards by Evolution International
and a request to desist from the use of the name
People’s Choice Awards which resulted in a law
suit.
On Thursday, February 26, 2015 at the Fast Track
High Court, the presiding judge, Justice Anthony
Yeboah placed in injunction restraining both Spyder
Lee Entertainment and Evolution International from
using the name ‘People’s Choice Awards’ until the
case is settled between both parties.
GN Bank Awards – Honouring the People’s Choice
is an annual multi sector awards scheme to
celebrate practitioners within the Ghanaian showbiz
industry who have contributed to the development
of the industry.
The maiden GN Bank Awards billed for March 21,
2015 at the Accra Conference Centre.

I don’t want to marry today and divorce tomorrow - Yvonne Nelson

Yvonne Nelson was on The KSM Show’s couch to
talk about her new movie “If Tomorrow Never
Comes”, John Dumelo having a lot of girlfriends and
her dad not being bold enough to patch his
relationship with her.
On her ban from the Ghana movie industry
governing body:
"Little did they know I will be producing my own
movies years down the line; it really feels amazing
now".
On her recent role in her upcoming movie:
"It’s the most challenging role I have played yet. I
heard about a little boy called Kweku. Suffering
from Cerebral malformation I heard his story from
Lucky Lawson. The mom sold iced water at
Shiashi….. He couldn’t do anything but lie down. We
wrote the story about two years ago but I wasn’t
ready like that. So I started planning last year there
about. I stood up one day and said “hey we have to
do this.” Sadly two weeks after shooting, Kweku
died. I shot so many scenes with him, so it was sad
when I heard he had passed on".
On dating John Dumelo:
"I have been declaring this on social media every
time that John is not my boyfriend. John has a lot of
girlfriends. This year I’m a secondary virgin. I’m
just trying to concentrate on my career. John can’t
change. He is a ladies’ man and he will forever be
John. Plus I don’t want any man in the industry".
On Ghanaian men approaching her:
"Most Ghanaian men are intimidated; most often
when it’s age appropriate; then they think I’m doing
better than them and that I’m going to be bossy and
control them around. Those around my age are
bothered that I’m an independent lady. That has
always been the problem. There were about two
guys who got scared. But I really don’t mind. Middle
of last year, I was trying out something and I wasn’t
convinced so I backed off.
It had to do with the man not being matured
enough".
On her dream man:
"The person has to be age appropriate – a five-
year gap is okay. But I don’t want someone too old
because when that happens, you can’t hold a
conversation with such a person. I’m not in a rush;
I don’t want to marry today and divorce tomorrow
because it happens a lot in the industry. Marriage is
a beautiful thing but it has to be right. I don’t want to
let my mom down, I want to make her and myself
happy".
On her relationship with her father:
"I don’t really look out much for my father because
he was not there enough for me. He is still around,
but hasn’t been bold enough to approach me for us
to talk. When I see him we talk but that’s just it. But
he is not part of my life. You can’t buy the love, you
can’t buy the time and it’s been too long. But when
it’s time we will talk, but he is a great guy".
On patching her relationship with her father:
"A man as old as that should take the first step but
then again he may not be ready. Since you want me
to I will call him".
On social media criticism:
"You don’t have to be too defensive; people just
want to talk so you just allow them to talk".
Her pet peeve:
"When people lie to me I lose my cool. I hate lies, I
can’t stand it and it makes me look stupid. If you
have been hurt before, you become smarter as a
woman and you become alert to not let the same
mistake happen again".

Anytime Ghana Music Awards is approaching, haters show up - Guru cries

Since his major breakthrough with ‘Kasiebo’ with
Obrafour, mountains of allegations are leveled
against Guru anytime Ghana Music Awards is
approaching, source has realized.
In an interview with source, Guru revealed that,
anytime he shakes the music scene with great
songs and he is an obvious choice for more
awards, from nowhere, defamers are successful in
bringing allegations against him; the stealing of
songs is one allegation which has been branded
Guru by detractors.
Guru in an interview with this medium said “what is
the time? You know Ghana Music Awards nominees
have been unveiled and from nowhere allegations
are coming up.
Have you realized that anytime Ghana Music
Awards is approaching, my name is dragged
through the mud? I have no idea why this but since
I broke through, this has continued for years.”
Pope Skinny, an ‘ex’ close friend of Guru last week
blasted the rapper for being a song thief. He called
Guru media-unfriendly names and warned Guru
“you want war, you get war, you want beef, am
gonna cook one for you to eat”.
Guru in the interview with source said he does not
want to talk about the Pope Skinny issue since it is
trivial.

Shatta Wale reacts to VGMA 2015 snub; blames Obour for industry woes

The reigning “Artiste of the Year”, Shatta Wale,
finally revealed reasons why he decided to stay
away from this year’s Ghana Music Awards.
The self-acclaimed dancehall king, in an interview
with Sammy Flex on Pluzz 89.9Fm said he didn’t
want to have anything to do with the awards due to
his ongoing dispute with Charter House.
The outspoken artiste stated that “You can’t take
me to court and give me food to eat; you might
poison me.”
The “enter the net” hit maker went ahead to attack
the President of Musicians Union of Ghana
(MUSIGA), Bice Osei Kuffour aka Obour, describing
him as the cheapest president ever.
“I want to blame people that I respect so much in
the industry like our own MUSIGA president, Bice
Osei Kuffour who has made himself so cheap and
low. He is the worst government ever in the
industry.”…
“He will be happy when he hears this because I
have texted him before and he knows,” he tells the
presenter.
The ‘King’ later commended some industry players
like Goodies, Mark Okraku and others for doing the
best for the music industry.

Jim Iyke is not the father of Nadia Buari’s twins"

She revealed on her segment on The Late Nite
Celebrity Show that her sources tell her Nadia and
Jim Iyke broke up about 11 months ago briefly after
he proposed.

My designs are not Illuminati - Chapter One

The CEO of Chapter One Classics, Leslie Twenefour
Wiredu has debunked rumors that he uses Illuminati
signs in making designs for his clothing line.
According to the designer, his innovative style in
creating new artworks is the reason behind his
unique designs.
The designer made this known in an exclusive Q &
A with Hitz FM.
Below is the conversation between Chapter One
and Hitz FM.
Q. How are you and your clothing line?
A. By the grace of God, everything is going on well.
Q. There are rumours that you use Illuminati signs
in your designs, how true is that?
A. They will only want to describe my art as
Illuminati because my works are beautiful and
match the international standards. Most Ghanaian
designers are lazy and spend all their time copying
from each other instead of thinking and coming out
with creative ideas.
Q. So you think you are not copying others too?
A. Never, Chapter One does not copy designs. We
create them and that’s what makes us unique in the
market.
Q. But looking at your designs it looks like you
copied some international designs and changed a
few things about it?
A.
My focus as a designer is to reach the international
market, therefore if I modernize a design it does
not mean I'm doing same, but rather doing it better
than the white man has already done.
Q. Did some international artistes like Kanye West,
Jay Z and Kendric Lamar really approve of your
designs?
A. Sure, because it matches international standards
and it is also close to something they can associate
with.
Q. Tell us about the clothes you designed for Dark
Suburb.
A. Yes, the group ‘Dark Suburb’ is a rock band who
prefer not to show their faces. They noticed my
designs in the ‘2014 Evil Must Die’ collection and
surprisingly it had a connection with their ideas
therefore we sealed a contract.
Q. Any last thing you want to say?
A. I would want to tell Ghanaians to quit that
negative attitude and help support to build the
(fashion) industry rather than tarnishing people’s
images and killing their spirits.
Chapter One has worked with some artistes like
Sarkodie, Edem, 4X4, D2, Nacee, Trigmatic, VIP,
Eazzy and Davido.

Ghana Music Awards bogus, biased - Gospel musician fumes-Anita Afriyie

Gospel Musician, Anita Afriyie has slammed
organizers of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards
(VGMA) for organizing what she called “a biased
and bogus Accra-based” awards ceremony.
The Kumasi-based musician said her claim was
based on the fact that organizers of the annual
musical event only selects and award musicians
based in Accra only.
“They have made the award an Accra event, so if
you are not based in Accra, hardly do they
recognize what you are doing in the industry if you
are from outside of Accra…,” she said angrily.
The Adehye Mogya singer who was on Adom Fm’s
Entertainment Hall show with his producer said the
one-sided nature of the awards was making it lose
its credibility.
She further condemned the organizers for failing to
nominate her more than twice in the gospel
category of this year’s awards since according to
her, her album reigned the musical genre during the
year.
Her producer/husband, Daniel Kwabena Osei Jnr
who appeared with her at the Adom studios also
described the award as bogus stating that he was
given the organizers two weeks to name her in
more than two categories.
The husband also joined her is singing the chorus
that it was time the VGMA award creativity in the
music industry and cease awarding people ‘who
sing Pentecostal songs and Catholic Hymns.’
He threatened the artiste would withdraw from the
awards if their demand is not met.
Her song, Adehye Mogya she said was so popular
to receive just two nominations.
The song “Adehye Mogya” from the album 'My
testimony' was nominated in the Gospel Artiste Of
The Year category which has No Tribe, Koda, Selina
Boateng, Gifty Osei, Joe Mettle, Anita Afriyie and
Evang. Diana Asamoah.
The second category is the Gospel Song Of The
Year which has:
Kyere Me Kwan – Emelian Arthur Feat. OJ & Esther
Smith
Yento Nkyia – Gifty Osei
Osabarima – No tribe
Alpha & Omega – Selina Boateng Feat. Uncle Ato
Nkwa Abodoo – Koda
Adehye Mogya – Anita Afriyie
Hymn (Pentecost Soree Nwom) – Evang. Diana
Asamoah

Music awards spark controversy

Controversy has ensued over the 16th edition of the
Ghana Music Awards nominations list after it was
announced in Accra Friday night at a ceremony
attended by key industry players.
Misgivings have been expressed about why some
names were missing in some of the categories as
well as the justification for placing certain songs
under categories they ought not to have belonged.
The enviable Overall Best Artiste of the Year
category is being competed for by Daddy Lumba,
Stonebwoy, Guru, Edem, MzVee, Sarkodie and
Samini.
Sarkodie had the highest number of nominations in
the 25 categories, followed by Edem and
Stonebwoy who seems to be having a jolly good
time, with a lot of people tipping him as a very
strong contender.
Reggie Rockstone and VVIP
The hiplife Grand Papa complained that his song
with VVIP, ‘Selfie’, had been placed under the hiplife
category whereas the song, according to him, is a
hip-hop song.
“‘Selfie’ is not a hiplife song; place it anywhere
except hiplife. I am the originator of hiplife and I
know what hiplife is. ‘Selfie’ is not hiplife but the
VGMA Board, on their own, decided to place it under
hiplife although we submitted the song for the hip-
hop category,” Rockstone complained after the
announcement of the list.
SAMINI
Samini’s nomination for the Reggae/Dancehall
Artiste of the Year category has sparked a huge
public debate, with many asking which Reggae or
Dancehall song qualified him for that category.
Indeed, his hit track, ‘Iskoki’, was surprisingly
placed under the category of Hiplife Song of the
Year, disqualifying it from the Reggae/Dancehall
category.
A more critical look at the list, however, shows that
Kaakie and Episode both have nominations for
Reggae/Dancehall Artiste when they did not have
any songs competing for Reggae/Dancehall Song of
the Year.
AKOO NANA & CASTRO
Akoo Nana was also seen fuming and almost
caused a scene after the nominations list was
announced and his hit track with Castro, “Mi
Yadaw”, was missing from the list.
Akoo and many others believe “Mi Yadaw” was
popular within the calendar year and made enough
impact to have earned it at least a nomination.
There were speculations that Akoo’s recent brawl
with Charterhouse, the organisers, may have
caused his elimination from the list though he had a
mega track.
Several pundits have also questioned Castro’s
absence from the Artiste of the Year category
though he enjoyed a huge audience appeal and had
some hit tracks in 2014.
Chase Forever
The smooth singer has expressed disappointment
with the 2015 nominations for Ghana Music Awards.
According to him, the nominations were a reflection
of claim that the awards ceremony is based on
popularity rather than an award scheme which
seeks to honour and encourage talents.
This musician gave this as the reason he did not
make it on the nominations list of the 2015 edition of
the awards ceremony.
When contacted on Saturday, Chase told NEWS-
ONE that to him the awards ceremony was ‘not
credible.’
“…Ghana Music Awards or whatever; I think is not
credible to me because I feel like the people who
really work hard never see the light of day in that
place.
“It is just for a few people who are shining… It is
like a popularity awards. You take the Grammies;
somebody like Beck was nominated and people
here don’t even know who Beck is, to the extent
where Kanye West was able to say that Beck does
not even deserve it. It is not a popularity award,
you understand. People actually sit down and write
music, so can’t you take your time and listen to
songs word by word? … They don’t know what they
are doing. And if the song sounds exotic or foreign
you must still sit down and listen to it. It is not
acapella; there is a producer who worked on it, and
there is an engineer who worked on it,” he
expressed his disappointment for not getting on the
nominations list.
GALAXY
Another major disappointment that has been
expressed is how Galaxy, the most popular duo on
the music block, did not make it to the Best New
Artiste(s) of the Year category. Galaxy, under the
calendar year, had its hit song, Holla At Me, all over
the airwaves and the group played a lot of shows
yet did not make the list.
That category had names such as Episode, Pappy
Kojo, MzVee, Emelia Arthur, Wiyaala and Vybrant
Faya competing for the award.
Best Collaboration of the Year
As per the category definition of Best Collaboration
of the Year, the two or more musicians who came
together for that collaboration ought to have
generated a huge public impact and appeal. It is
therefore shocking that the VGMA Board settled on
gospel song ‘Alpha & Omega’ by Selina Boateng,
featuring Uncle Ato, for this category.
It makes it look as though the Board was only doing
the gospel fraternity a favour rather than
nominating the song based on the strength of its
collaboration.
Such a decision gives credence to the complaint
from Akoo Nana with regard to how his
collaboration with Castro, “Mi Yadaw”, did not make
it though it made a huge impact in the calendar
year.
Amazingly, the VGMA Board decided that ‘Alpha &
Omega’ by Selina Boateng featuring Uncle Ato made
more impact than “Mi Yadaw” by Akoo Nana and
Castro and therefore nominated it to compete with
‘Koene’ by Edem featuring Ice Queen and Lil
Shaker, ‘Baby Dance’ by 4X4 featuring Davido,
‘Adonai (Remix)’ by Sarkodie featuring Castro,
‘Seihor’ by Castro featuring D-Black, ‘Love Rocks’
by Sarkodie featuring Samini and ‘Baafira’ by
Stonebwoy featuring Sarkodie.

Castro's ghost stirs debate over VGMA nominations

Another season of Vodafone Ghana Music Awards
is here and no sooner had last Friday’s launch of
the awards and the release of the nominees list
ended than the controversies began.
“Why is Castro not a nominee for the ultimate
VGMA Artiste of the Year award?” the question
began with a buzz among some invited guests,
musicians and media present.
Castro’s popularity, especially with his 2014 release
Seihor and other collaborations with colleague
artistes such as D Black, Sarkodie and Akoo Nana
were cited as justification for him to be up there on
the Artiste of the Year list together with Daddy
Lumba, Stonebwoy, Guru, Edem, Mz Vee, Sarkodie
and Samini.
Above all considerations, however, was the
sympathy that many music enthusiasts have for
Castro following his mysterious disappearance
during a jet ski ride at Ada in July last year.
When such controversies have arisen in the past,
the organisers, Charterhouse, attempt with a
measure of success, to explain away their
decisions. This time, however, it appears they will
have a lot of convincing to do.
The official category definition for Artiste of the
Year clearly states that he or she “is the artiste
adjudged by the Academy, Board and general public
as the artiste with the highest audience appeal and
popularity.
The artiste must have released a single or an album
during the year under review”.
The people who are doing the questioning say that
the artiste satisfies all the requirements of the
definition so “Why has Castro been left out?”
They insist that Castro, released a hit before his
disappearance, he had a very high audience appeal
and his popularity has virtually gone through the
rood especially since his absence.
Overall, Sarkodie received the highest number of 11
nominations on the VGMA list, followed by Edem
with 10, and Stonebwoy, Guru and MxVee receiving
six nominations each.
The poorest category surprisingly is the Highlife
Artiste of the Year which has only three nominees, -
Bisa Kdei, Daddy Lumba and Afriyie.
The richest category is the Song of the Year which
has as many as 10 nominees.
The latest addition to the categories is the Reggae/
Dancehall Artiste of the Year which boasts of a
strong field comprising Stonebwoy, Ras Kuuku,
MzVee, Samini, Kaakie and Episode.

Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes…- KOD tells media

Kofi Okyere Darko was on e.TV’s The Late Nite
Celebrity Show to talk about his 18 years on radio.
Popularly known as KOD, the former Radio Gold
host revealed he wanted to appeal to a certain
class of people hence his fashion choices.
“When I started, I wanted to appeal to a certain
class of people, and it came with dressing up
properly. And I mean once you work in the media,
it’s your profession and so you should dress well,
why should you wear a T Shirt because you are a
DJ. Dress well so people get to respect your job.
It’s very important because it’s better to be over
dressed than to be underdressed".
He revealed he had some political ambitions but it
weaned as time went on.
“Sometime back, I wanted to contribute from
parliament but they disappointed me. But that
interest has weaned down because I think most of
the politicians are a waste of our time. I read about
people who were part of the first republic and if you
know me, I am a big supporter of brand Ghana. I
support anything Ghana. My father was a director of
Prisons and growing up in the barracks you are
taught about being patriotic.
I’m an Nkrumahist and a Pan Africanist".
On his new next endeavor after his eighteen years
stint on radio, he revealed;
“My mom passed a few years ago and my father
turned 85 and so I want to concentrate on the family
and I’m still nurturing the Nineteen57 brand".
KOD who owns clothing line Nineteen57 concluded
by advising the media;
“In complete darkness we are all the same; it’s
only our knowledge and wisdom that separates us. I
think one of things we are losing as a people is love
for each other. We need each other as a country.
There is so much hating in the country. People will
go ahead and say so much hateful things about you
without knowing any truth about it. That’s not good.
Those that support each other support themselves".
“I’m saying this especially because of the media.
Because in the media, as one man is going down
everyone wants to clampdown on you, so you die.
What if you find yourself in the person’s position
next time? There’s a song by Sting which says
don’t judge me, you could be me in another life.
Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes.”

Bad time management is more serious than 'dumsor' in Ghana - Kontihene

Mi Gi Zi Gi rapper, Kontihene was on The KSM Show
to talk about his new direction in music.
The rapper currently promoting his Yaa Pono
featured track D3d33d3 expressed his frustration
towards the industry’s lackadaisical attitude
towards time.
“I think in this creative industry there are more
people in there who are not mentally sound. Excuse
me to say; there are so many people in this world
who wear neat clothes but you deal with them and
you see the frustration they will put you through.
“I pray we get a lot more wise people in the
industry. People who will live up to their words. An
example is you scheduling a meeting with someone
at 12pm and then they show up at 4pm or not show
up at all. Sometimes, some of them don’t care to
call or text you to tell you the reason why they
couldn’t show up.

To me that’s frustrating and it’s like they are
wasting your life. I think it’s one major challenge we
have as a nation. I think that’s even more serious
than the dumsor; but people keep talking about the
dumsor every day. There are more core issues we
need to fix and transform our minds. In the music
industry, we have thousands of them in there.”
He concluded by revealing he is now reorienting
himself by finding the light and truth by reading a
lot.
“I’m reading a lot of the Bible and the Quran now. I
think the truth is in your mind; you listen to what
the religions are saying and make the decisions for
yourself.
