The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is backing
Black Stars coach, Avram Grant’s request that
Guinea goalkeeper, Naby Yattara, be banned for his
salvage attack on Asamoah Gyan in their quarter-
finals encounter last Sunday.
Grant, very upset by the savage attack on Gyan
which appeared to have ended the Ghana captain's
campaign at the African Cup of Nations being held in
Equatorial Guinea, was almost fuming when he told
the Daily Graphic that the intention of the
goalkeeper was "not to prevent Gyan from scoring
but just to end his career.
"His intention was so clear and he deserved 10 red
cards, but that should not leave him to just a ban for
some matches, he should be banned for life,
because he had bad intentions which was not good
for football," he stated.
Mr George Afriyie, chairman of the Black Stars
Management Committee, told the Daily Graphic
Yattara had earlier attacked Gyan in Morocco
during the qualifiers.
"We have taken strong exception to the behaviour of
the goalkeeper who has not even found it
necessary to apologise to the player despite being
in the same hotel.
We made a verbal complaint, but we have been told
that CAF will only act on a formal complaint so we
are doing exactly that,” he added.
