Fans Fight For Bisa Kdei

It appears the usual controversies that arise every
year during Vodafone Ghana Music Awards
(VGMAs) have heightened this year.
After Charter House, organizers of the VGMAs,
released the nomination list for the music event
last weekend, entertainment pundits, critics,
patrons and fans have raised concerns as to why
Bisa Kdei was not included in New Artiste of the
Year category.
Some angry fans took to their Twitter handle to
register their displeasure about the fact that the
‘Give It To Baba’ singer was not mentioned in the
New Artiste of the Year category.
“@sadatooga: #VGMA turning into a joke.
@stonebwoyb not nominated for artiste of the
year?@bisa kdei not nominated for new artiste of
year. Seriously?” Sadat Gariba, a Ghanaian music
patron tweeted.
Another fan who could not hold back his
disappointment also tweeted, “@aborc
@stonebwoyb @bisa_kdei I shock give VGMA saf..
Dem bring politricks into creativity. Not cool at
all.”
According to Charter House, an artiste who is
considered as an underground act does not
qualify for the New Artiste of the Year category.
But Bisa Kdei shot up as a full time music artiste
after his ‘Metanfo’ hit song in 2013 and has since
held up the mantle as a young Highlife act.
He was nominated for the Highlife Artiste of the
Year, Song Writer of the Year and Highlife Song of
the Year categories but not in the New Artiste of
the Year category.
This year Akwaboah, Joey B and Kumi Guitar
made it to the New Artiste of the Year category.
Perhaps, this is one of the many discrepancies yet
to be uncovered before the main event which is
slated for May 3 at the Accra International
Conference Centre (AICC).
